Eggbert

Genre: Punk

From The Roanoke Times "Punk in Roanoke" feature:

"Eggbert was the brainchild of the 18-year-old version of Roanoke Times staffer Matt Chittum. A sister band to the more serious Мир, Eggbert were the clowns of Roanoke's punk scene, raffling off turkeys during concerts and singing songs about Ramen noodles. A 1985 Roanoke Times story summed up their repertoire as 60-second pseudo-musical thrashings, including one performed with an exceptional lack of finesse. But then how many bands can boast bouncing 200 rubber superballs off the stage into the crowd?"

Blemish on Society

Genre: Punk

From The Roanoke Times "Punk in Roanoke" feature:

"Blemish on Society brought true nose-snarling, middle-finger waving punk rock to Roanoke in 1982. A quartet led by singer and lyricist Tommy Housman and guitarist Doug Caldwell, BOS reveled in talking their way into blue collar and redneck bars where they knew their songs like 'Who is God?' and 'Reagan's Fantasy' would hardly be well-received."

Genre: Punk / Rock / Acoustic Rock

Fallout

From The Roanoke Times "Punk in Roanoke" feature:

"Fallout, started in the mid-'80s but outlasted their contemporaries. The band was a regular on Roanoke's club scene until the mid-'90s, when two of its three members helped form Johnny Boy. Bassist Dave Fueglein went on to help found Dead End Heist, which he left early this year, and drummer Andre Burroughs played in the StarCity WildCats. Their EP, 'It's All Over Now,' is a classic of Roanoke punk."

Genre: Rock / Punk

Luke Pewk and the Vomit

From The Roanoke Times "Punk in Roanoke" feature:

"Salem's Lewk Pewk and the Vomit, the musical incarnation of the twisted musings of singer John Krippendorf, rarely played with the same lineup twice. In fact, they boasted never being allowed to play in the same place twice. Their shows were as much performance art as concerts, with Krippendorf mutilating himself and ripping phony entrails from a mannequin on stage. Most famously, they were kicked offstage at Olde Salem Days in 1986. 'I'm not a music critic,' the head of the event told the Salem Times-Register, 'but when the arts and crafts people started leaving something had to be done.'"

МиP

From The Roanoke Times "Punk in Roanoke" feature:

"Мир was a South Roanoke-based foursome of politically conscious high school kids possessed of a rare degree of musicianship for a Roanoke punk band in those days. They were perhaps Roanoke's first touring punkers, playing shows in Richmond and Raleigh. They disbanded in 1985 when three members left for college, and one for prep school."

The Raticals

From The Roanoke Times "Punk in Roanoke" feature:

"The Raticals, formed in the early '80s, were Roanoke's seminal punk band. The trio released a four-song EP in 1981 before disbanding in 1982. The band re-formed for a single reunion show in the late '90s."
